On Friday 2nd September 2022, towns and villages across Kirklees were brought to life by a pack of 67 dazzlingly decorated Snowdog sculptures, creating a spectacular event for our entire community to enjoy for the next eight weeks. And there are plenty of works of art to discover right here in Holmfirth!
Snowdogs Support Life, Kirklees has been created by The Kirkwood, in partnership with renowned events company, Wild in Art. As well as bringing joy to the faces of the community, it’s also a chance for The Kirkwood to share information about the care the charity provide in every town and village across Kirklees. They want people to know they are here to help anyone affected by any life limiting illness – whenever and wherever they need it.
Inspired by The Snowman™ and The Snowdog, the hugely popular sequel to Raymond Briggs’ classic story The Snowman, Snowdogs Support Life, Kirklees brings the magic of the Snowdog character to life this Autumn.
Snowdogs Support Life, Kirklees is free to take part in and celebrates the very best creative talent from local, regional and national artists. 30 uniquely designed Snowdogs, along with 37 mini sculptures, are on display around Kirklees for visitors to discover and enjoy as part of a world class public arts event never seen before in West Yorkshire.
The Kirkwood have teamed up with event experts Wild in Art, who have been delivering high profile events across the globe for over ten years, to put on an event our whole community will be proud of.
Whether you’re heading off on a trek with your canine companion, love finding new things to do with friends or prefer to take on your adventures solo, joining our Art Trail is a fun way to get out in the great outdoors, discover hidden gems and enjoy amazing artwork on display in some truly unexpected places. It’s a fantastic way to entertain the kids on a weekend or during the half term holiday too, combining exploration, education and excitement for little ones and adults alike.
The Kirkwood’s large Snowdog sculptures have been sponsored by some great businesses and individually designed by some truly amazing artists. Schools from across Kirklees have also been getting creative, creating some truly inspirational designs and decorating 37 Snowdog Pups, which have also joined the trail!
Snowdogs Support Life, Kirklees runs from Friday 2nd September to Monday 31st October 2022! It’s completely free to take part, with all money raised through donations helping to support The Kirkwood, who provide vital care for people affected by any life limiting illness in towns and villages across Kirklees, every step of the way.
