Financial Controller – Spectrum Yarns, Slaithwaite, Huddersfield
Financial Controller
Slaithwaite, Huddersfield | £50,000–£55,000 | Full-time, Permanent
Join Us at an Exciting Time
Spectrum Yarns is entering an exciting period of change and development.
Following a significant business transformation, we are investing in new systems, improved processes and stronger reporting capabilities to support the future development of our Stylecraft and Apparel brands.
We’re looking for a qualified accountant who wants more than a traditional finance role. This is an opportunity to take ownership of the finance function, work directly with the Managing Director, lead the finance workstream of a major ERP implementation and develop towards the senior finance leadership role within the business.
The Role
The role has three core areas of responsibility:
- Run and Develop the Finance Function
You’ll work alongside our current Interim Accountant during a structured handover period before assuming full responsibility for the finance function.
You will take ownership of management accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and working capital, year-end and statutory requirements, and the financial controls that underpin the business. You’ll ensure the leadership team has accurate, timely and meaningful financial information to support effective decision-making.
- Lead the Finance Workstream of Our ERP Project
As part of a major business transformation programme, you’ll take ownership of the finance workstream for the implementation of our new ERP system, working closely with project leads and colleagues across the business towards our planned go-live in April 2027.
You’ll play a key role in finance requirements, data migration, testing, financial controls and reporting, while helping to shape and embed improved processes and ways of working.
- Improve Business Performance
You’ll develop clearer reporting, meaningful KPIs and stronger commercial insight, giving the leadership team greater visibility of profitability, margins, stock performance and working capital.
You’ll turn financial information into practical commercial insight, helping to support strategic decision-making and identify opportunities to improve business performance.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a qualified ACCA or CIMA accountant with strong management accounting and reporting experience.
You may already be working as a Financial Controller, or you could be an experienced Management Accountant ready to take the next step and assume broader responsibility for a finance function.
Most importantly, you’ll be commercially minded, confident working with financial systems and data, comfortable taking ownership and able to work effectively across different areas of the business.
ERP implementation experience would be beneficial but is not essential. We’re more interested in your ability to understand financial processes, embrace change and contribute effectively to a major systems implementation.
Experience within a stock-based or product-based business would also be advantageous.
Why This Role?
This is not a role focused on maintaining the status quo. You’ll be joining at a point when both the finance function and the systems supporting it are evolving, giving you a genuine opportunity to influence how they develop.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Work directly with the Managing Director and provide financial insight to support key business decisions.
- Take ownership of the finance workstream within a major ERP implementation.
- Improve the quality of reporting and commercial insight available across the business.
- Shape financial processes, controls and ways of working for the future.
- Develop your role as the needs of the business evolve, with the opportunity to progress into its senior finance leadership position.
Package
- £50,000–£55,000, depending on experience.
- Company pension scheme.
- Professional development support.
- Genuine opportunity to develop towards the senior finance leadership role.
- Full-time, permanent position based in Slaithwaite, Huddersfield.
