Job Overview:
The Nursery Cook at Looby Loos Nursery is responsible for preparing nutritious, balanced, and appealing meals and snacks for children aged 0-5 years. The role involves planning menus that meet dietary and health requirements, maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety, and contributing to the overall wellbeing and development of the children.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook healthy, nutritious, and age-appropriate meals, snacks, and drinks in accordance with dietary requirements and nursery policies.
- Plan weekly menus that meet nutritional standards and incorporate diverse, appealing food options.
- Ensure all food preparation, handling, and storage complies with health and safety regulations, including food hygiene standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the kitchen and cooking areas.
- Monitor and manage stock levels, including ordering supplies and checking expiry dates.
- Record and document food temperatures, dietary restrictions, and meal preferences.
- Work collaboratively with nursery staff to support children’s dietary needs and any special dietary plans.
- Ensure a safe environment by adhering to health and safety policies and procedures.
- Keep up-to-date with food trends and nutritional research relevant to early childhood care.
- Support nursery staff with any special catering requests or events involving food.
- Promote a positive eating environment, encouraging children to develop healthy eating habits.
Person Specification:
Qualifications:
- Food hygiene certification (Level 2 or equivalent).
- Relevant food preparation and safety training.
- Experience working in a nursery, preschool, or similar setting (desirable).
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent knowledge of nutrition and dietary requirements for young children.
- Ability to prepare fresh, healthy, and appealing meals within set timescales.
- Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene standards.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and good organisational skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and prioritise effectively.
