Horbury Victoria Brass Band Christmas Concert at The Civic, Holmfirth

Join Horbury Victoria Brass Band here at The Civic, Holmfirth to witness world class brass! HVBB were founded in 1866 and are going from strength to strength. Second place in the first section represents the band’s highest ever position in a grading competition, and their first ever qualification for the National Finals in this section of banding.

Most excitingly, combined with their solid performances in 2020 and 2022, that result promoted them to the Championship section from 2024. This is the top level of banding, alongside the likes of Black Dyke, Grimethorpe and Brighouse & Rastrick. So, prepare for a spectacular evening, and to top it off you will all have the pleasure of hearing the wonderful Michael Dodd. Recognised as one of the finest euphonium players of his generation, Michael has won solo awards at the European Championships, Brass in Concert Championships, National Championships of Great Britain and the Yorkshire Regional Championships. In addition, his highlights with Grimethorpe have included performances in Carnegie Hall, New York and the Sydney Opera House so to sum up a great night ahead, don’t delay book today.

HVBB were deeply saddened by the passing of their esteemed Musical Director, Mr Duncan Beckley, MBE on 27th September 2025. A notable figure in the brass band world, Duncan dedicated a lifetime to music, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to work with him.

With 15 years to present day at the helm of his home band Horbury Victoria, a year leading Wakefield Metropolitan, and an impressive 25-year tenure with Newstead Brass, to name just a few, Duncan shaped generations of musicians with his talent, passion, and unwavering commitment to excellence. His influence extended far beyond the baton – he was a mentor, a dear friend, and a source of inspiration to the entire brass band community. Awarded an MBE for his services to music in 2024, Duncan’s legacy will live on in the countless performances and memories he created over decades of dedication.

He will be profoundly missed but forever remembered for the music, leadership, and joy he brought into our lives, he really did go above and beyond, the band will pay tribute to his dedication on the night.

Doors open at 6.45pm, this is a fully seated event and seats are on a first come first served basis. Bar available throughout the evening. The Civic has full disabled access.
