Heartwood is a gentle, nature based creative programme delivered by Eden’s Forest CIC as part of the Kirklees Seasons of Culture Nature initiative. These sessions offer calm, connection, creativity and a supportive wellbeing space for adults in a woodland setting.

Heartwood focuses on accessible, hands‑on creativity using natural materials, with opportunities to contribute to collaborative artwork shaped by our Artist in Residence.

This session is designed as a post summer reset. A chance to breathe out after the holidays, settle back into routine and enjoy quiet time in nature with friendly facilitators who understand anxiety, overwhelm and sensory needs.

Fully catered with Lunch, hot drinks and snacks included.
Finance should not be a barrier to making friends, so all places are offered on a Pay As You Feel basis.

🌿 What we will be doing
Each Heartwood session blends simple, seasonal making with gentle nature connection. Activities are beginner friendly and use natural, locally sourced or foraged materials.

Activities Include:
Cyanotype printing using seasonal plants and sunlight, weather permitting
Willow weaving to create small sculptural forms
Green wood whittling with safe tool use
Nature connected photography guided by our Artist in Residence
Collaborative artwork that contributes to the wider Heartwood installation
You are welcome to join in as much or as little as you like. There is no pressure to produce anything. Simply being in the woods is enough.

🌿 Artist in Residence
Our Artist in Residence, Sarah McNally, shapes the creative feel of Heartwood. Her nature connected practice influences the materials, artwork and collaborative pieces created across the programme. She gently supports participants to notice seasonal details, experiment with light and texture and contribute to a shared installation that will be exhibited later in the year.

This session is for adults who would benefit from gentle outdoor time, low‑pressure creativity and a supportive space to regulate and reset.

If you experience anxiety, social isolation, sensory overwhelm, a disconnect from nature, or simply want to try woodland creative crafts like willow weaving, cyanotype or whittling, you are very welcome.

Many people come on their own, and you will be met with warmth, understanding and calm facilitation.
