Cllr Charles Greaves, Holme Valley North Independent said “This is a great project. Myself, Cllr Terry Lyons and Cllr Paul White were really keen to help Andy and Christine to get it up and running and we were delighted that the church group could help out. We would like to say a big “thank-you” to Andy, Christine, and to the leaders and the young people from the church for all of their work – they really did a great job.”
Abi Peel from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said “It was an absolute pleasure to work alongside Andy and Christine. Whilst our local church is in Meltham Mills, the group of over 100 young people came from across Huddersfield, Halifax, Wakefield and Dewsbury, and the experience enabled all of us to learn more about the natural habitats around us and the work that goes into their preservation. We had a lot of fun working together in the beautiful surroundings, and everyone felt a great satisfaction in seeing the results of their hard work.”
The Friends of Honley Old Wood is led by Christine Senior of Meltham who said “The young people were amazing. They really got stuck in and we got so much work done. With the help of the church group, and all the equipment and support we’ve had from Kirklees Council’s Environmental Volunteer Co-Ordinator Andy Wickham we’re off to a flying start, but there is still more work to do. The Wood lies between Meltham Mills and Honley Moor and is used by people from Honley, Meltham and Netherton. We’re keen to set-up more work parties, so if you would like to help on a regular basis or just on a one-off please get in touch – 07856 844432 or by email christine_senior@outlook.com.”
