SUMMARY:Italian Beginners classes at The Modern Language School
DESCRIPTION:This is a weekly course starting Monday 8th September where you will learn the basics of this beautiful language. The courses will be held at our dedicated language school equipped with all the latest technology and run by our professional team of language teachers. With the option to attend either during the day 1-2:30pm or in the evening 7:30-9pm. Oh and if you can’t attend in person (and occasional class or all of them) there is the option to join online. These classes are fun and interactive and great chance to make friends as well as learn Italian. We also offer extra activities including film study session. Wine tastings and cookery evening. If you already know some Italian we have classes available at all levels.

SUMMARY:Wood Carving Classes (Beginners) with Jamie Frost Studio
DESCRIPTION:Carving is a beautiful process. The textures\, sounds and aroma of the materials will awaken your senses\, accompanied by the rhythms of each student driving chisel with mallet. In this class you’ll work using finest quality hand tools to carve green timber. Everything is provided. You’ll be shown how to care for tools and where to acquire your own. \nNo previous experience is required. Your first class will take the form of a structured introduction to the tools and processes involved. You’ll then move on to your first project. This is a guided workshop with a maximum of eight participants\, where the tutor is on hand to provide tuition\, advice and assistance as you develop your own project. After your first relief is completed we’ll discuss a more advanced project for your net term of study. Previous students have made everything from a Möbius strip to a woodblock printing plate\, along with many animals\, figures\, heads\, owls\, green men… \nThe workshop is open from 4-6pm each Wednesday. DESCRIPTION:Friday\, May 8th to Sunday May 10th\n\nWhy come to Holmfirth Festival of Folk?Holmfirth is a small pennine town which comes to life during the Festival of Folk. There has been a folk festival in Holmfirth for more than 40 years. 2026 will be the 48th! We pride ourselves on producing a community based festival involving schools\, local talent\, most businesses in the town and\, of course\, a small band of volunteers. Our income is tiny compared to most festivals on the circuit and comes mainly from sponsorship\, grants\, public collections and ticket sales.\nThe Festival isn’t just about concerts (DETAILS OF WHICH ARE BELOW)\, it’s also about Community involvement and fun. We will have a wonderful Schools concert \, street theatre\, lots of dancing and performances by local groups. The Parish and the Methodist Churches are important venues who\, kindly\, host events and activities.\n​Other parts of Holmfirth festival of Folk are our fringes. We have our Family Fringe of street theatre\, family friendly events and activities\,  and\, of course\, our Musical Fringe where town centre venues such as The Nook\, O’Briens Bottle Shop\, Taphouse\, The Elephant and Castle\, The PostCard\, The Old Bridge\, Ten-14 and Cooper’s Yard host artistes.  For a free Family Fringe Timetable\, click HERE \nFingers crossed that we have our Fringe artist line-up finalised ! Expect to see; a great variety of talent  \nOnce again\, we demonstrate that “Folk” is a broad church to be enjoyed by everyone. You will be able to listen to gypsy jass\, blues\, rockabilly\, acappella\, indie\, country\, english folk\, irish folk\, punk folk – you name it and it’s very likely covered. \nBest not to try to compartmentalise \nBest just to enjoy !​ \nHolmfirth Festival of Folk offers a wide variety of workshops and opportunities to get involved for children and adults alike. Come and try your hand at something new or get the opportunity to develop skills you already have. Join in with everything from ukuleles to morris dancing or come and join in one of our folk clubs and have a sing around.
