Classes are led by Jamie Frost\, a figurative art specialist with a particular passion for drawing. \nDrawing is a very personal thing so it’s important to me that the atmosphere of my classes is welcoming and accepting. DESCRIPTION:We now offer a full day (bookings available weekdays\, Mondays to Fridays\, 10am – 5pm) one to one workshop session with Karl in his studio at the Sculpture Lounge in Holmbridge\, Holmfirth\, West Yorkshire.\nYour day can be tailored to your specific needs and requirements\, so this workshop will suit you if you’re any of the following:\n* I’m completely new to jewellery-making and would like a full introduction to the basic tools and methods\n* I’ve dabbled in the past and would like to refresh my skills and memory\n* I’m already pretty adept at making jewellery but would like to extend my knowledge\, gain advice\, learn hints and tips\, and have full use of your tools and workshop for the day\nIn his fully equipped studio\, Karl can guide you through the process of how to cut\, file\, shape and solder copper and silver\, in order to create your own special piece (or pieces) of jewellery. DESCRIPTION:Friday\, May 8th to Sunday May 10th\n\nWhy come to Holmfirth Festival of Folk?Holmfirth is a small pennine town which comes to life during the Festival of Folk. There has been a folk festival in Holmfirth for more than 40 years. 2026 will be the 48th! We pride ourselves on producing a community based festival involving schools\, local talent\, most businesses in the town and\, of course\, a small band of volunteers. Our income is tiny compared to most festivals on the circuit and comes mainly from sponsorship\, grants\, public collections and ticket sales.\nThe Festival isn’t just about concerts (DETAILS OF WHICH ARE BELOW)\, it’s also about Community involvement and fun. We will have a wonderful Schools concert \, street theatre\, lots of dancing and performances by local groups. The Parish and the Methodist Churches are important venues who\, kindly\, host events and activities.\n​Other parts of Holmfirth festival of Folk are our fringes. We have our Family Fringe of street theatre\, family friendly events and activities\,  and\, of course\, our Musical Fringe where town centre venues such as The Nook\, O’Briens Bottle Shop\, Taphouse\, The Elephant and Castle\, The PostCard\, The Old Bridge\, Ten-14 and Cooper’s Yard host artistes.  For a free Family Fringe Timetable\, click HERE \nFingers crossed that we have our Fringe artist line-up finalised ! Expect to see; a great variety of talent  \nOnce again\, we demonstrate that “Folk” is a broad church to be enjoyed by everyone. DESCRIPTION:EcoHolmes are hosting a talk by John Boughton\, social historian\, on MUNICIPAL DREAMS – THE RISE AND FALL OF COUNCIL HOUSING on Wednesday 13th May 2026 in the Cafe Room at the Holmfirth Tech\, following on from our AGM. EcoHolmes supporters who are not Members are welcome to attend the AGM as guests at 7pm or to come along for the talk at 7.30pm. Refreshments will be available. \nJohn Boughton has written about the social\, political\, and architectural history of council housing in the United Kingdom. He explores how the ambition to provide decent housing for all citizens became a central part of British politics and then traces the subsequent decline and “stigmatisation” of those same public estates. He argues that the modern housing crisis stems from abandoning the “municipal dream” of good-quality state-provided homes and ties in historical policy failures to contemporary tragedies\, such as the Grenfell Tower fire\, illustrating the consequences of neglecting social housing safety and community. Originally born out of Boughton’s highly regarded blog of the same name\, the book is widely cited as essential reading for understanding Britain’s current housing challenges. \nJohn Boughton is the author of Municipal Dreams: the Rise and Fall of Council Housing (Verso\, 2018) and A History of Council Housing in 100 Estates (RIBA Books\, 2022). His blog Municipal Dreams – a record of local authority housing and reform across the country and in Europe – has been viewed 2.5 million times. He is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the School of Architecture of the University of Liverpool.

DESCRIPTION:All events at our annual Big Free Weekend from 12-14 June\, will be FREE or Pay As You Decide this year\, thanks to our funders.The popular River of Art will return to the banks of the River Holme for everyone to enjoy\, a ‘Mass Brass’ ensemble will accompany the parade\, which takes place from 4.30pm on Saturday 13 June. \nThere will be traditional British and contemporary Brazilian music\, Bhangra and French Breton dancing and songs from the Wooldale Warblers\, along with giant puppets\, craft workshops\, VR experiences\, aerial circus spectacle and you might bump into some Nora Battys. \nThis year we are again celebrating the theme ‘Flow’\, embracing our environment and the people in it. Our focus is on the new springs of local talent that are bubbling up in our vibrant valley\, and we are showcasing some of the creativity of some of our younger people. Look out for pop up performances and showcases during the festival. We are also continuing to celebrate the Graveship of Holme\, which will be represented in this year’s Townships in Flow Parade. Please come along to one of our free making events and become part of the parade yourself. \nDon’t forget the New Streams Emerging Talent Showcase on Sunday 28 June\, at The Picturedrome\, Holmfirth. \nDiscover the next wave of creative voices in this vibrant showcase of emerging artists from local high and music schools.
