Hallam Sinfonia – Holmfirth Arts Festival
2nd September - 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
£8.50 – £17
Marking a landmark 50th anniversary year, ensemble players from Hallam Sinfonia and harpsichordist Gordon Busbridge (Director of Music at Cheltenham College) join forces to present chamber music by the legends of Baroque music: Bach, Vivaldi, Corelli, and Handel, at Christ Church, in Sude Hill. Sheffield-based Hallam Sinfonia was set up as a chamber orchestra in 1973.
Today’s repertoire extends from the baroque to the 21st century, including large-scale romantic works, and from mainstream classics to film music and children’s concerts. They make their Holmfirth debut with a select group of string players under the direction of Gordon Busbridge, also on harpsichord.
The orchestra also has a partnership with Hallam Choral Society and 2023 saw its biggest collaborative effort yet, involving not just HCS but also Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus and Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra in Mahler’s Second Symphony.
