The annual art exhibition\,is one of the UK’s largest\nopen art exhibitions\, and has become a local event with a national reputation. Now a firm\nfavourite in the calendar\, it welcomes visitors from across the Holme Valley and beyond. \nHolmfirth Artweek\, is a week-long event dedicated to visual art. The event includes a main\nexhibition in the Civic Hall in Holmfirth\, featuring over 400 exhibitors with over 2\,000\nindividual pieces of art. There are also fringe venues across the local area\,that showcase\neven more artists with thousands more pieces of art and crafts\, creating a real buzz in the\nlocal area. \nThis year is set to be more exciting than ever as the team prepare to celebrate 60 years\nsince the very first event. To mark this occasion there will be special celebrations in the\nmain exhibition including a specially curated new artist showcase within the main exhibition\nand multiple fringe venues across the region. The team behind the event hope this year will\nbe the biggest and most successful event to date. \nIt is also the 30th year of Artweek for Curator of the event and local artist Mick Kirkby-\nGeddes. Mick brings his own sense of style to the event each year\, mixing up the format of\nthe main exhibition to keep it fresh and new. His focus is about “bringing everyone together\nto make something great happen”. And this year is promising to be the best one yet.\nFor 60 years the event has brought together a variety of artists across all mediums of art –\nfrom sculpture to paint\, to photography and beyond. It remains one of the UK’s largest and\nlongest running open art exhibitions welcoming artists and visitors from the local area\, as\nwell as across the country. \nAs well as supporting local artists\, a percentage of sales from Holmfirth Artweek are donated\nto charity each year. To date the event has raised over £1.1 million. This year this will be\nsplit between local charity The Kirkwood and long-standing partner Macmillan Cancer\nSupport. In 2025 this amount total £40\,000 or £20\,000 each. \nAcross the event there will be a wide variety of art from both professionals and amateurs\,\nproviding something to suit everyone’s taste and budget in the main exhibition. There are\nalso demonstrations on the stage in the Civic Hall\, showcasing a selection of artists at work\nso you can see behind the curtain on how pieces are made. The Civic Hall in the heart of\nHolmfirth also has a small café and a market on the middle floor\, making it a fun day out.\nIn addition to the main exhibition\, businesses and venues around the area also participate in\nthe Holmfirth Artweek Fringe by exhibiting and selling the work of even more artists. This\nhelps to bring Holmfirth Artweek into the community and to raise extra funds for the charity\npartners. Venues located across Holmfirth\, the Holme and Colne Valleys and beyond\nprovide a great way to see the local area. The venues range from bars and cafés to\nchurches and community spaces\, as well as open art studios which will offer visitors special\naccess into the artists’ workspaces\, this year there will be 60 venues to visit. \nThis year\, the event will run from Sunday 5 th July to Saturday 11 th July. The main exhibition\,\nat Holmfirth Civic Hall\, will be open from 10am – 9pm Monday – Friday and until 5pm on\nSunday and Saturday. \n

DESCRIPTION:All events at our annual Big Free Weekend from 12-14 June\, will be FREE or Pay As You Decide this year\, thanks to our funders.The popular River of Art will return to the banks of the River Holme for everyone to enjoy\, a ‘Mass Brass’ ensemble will accompany the parade\, which takes place from 4.30pm on Saturday 13 June. \nThere will be traditional British and contemporary Brazilian music\, Bhangra and French Breton dancing and songs from the Wooldale Warblers\, along with giant puppets\, craft workshops\, VR experiences\, aerial circus spectacle and you might bump into some Nora Battys. \nThis year we are again celebrating the theme ‘Flow’\, embracing our environment and the people in it. Our focus is on the new springs of local talent that are bubbling up in our vibrant valley\, and we are showcasing some of the creativity of some of our younger people. Look out for pop up performances and showcases during the festival. We are also continuing to celebrate the Graveship of Holme\, which will be represented in this year’s Townships in Flow Parade. DESCRIPTION:Come and take your pick from hundreds of plants and seedlings at Growing Newsome’s popular annual plant swap – great for food growers and gardening friends. You can choose from Vegetables\, Salads\, Herbs\, Fruit and Wildlife-friendly flowers grown by our volunteers\, and plants brought in on the day by people in our community. \nYou’re very welcome to bring along plants\, seedlings\, cuttings or seeds to swap – but you don’t need to bring something to take something. You can also choose some plants in exchange for a donation to Growing Newsome. \nOur event also includes stalls from local organisations\, including local food on sale\, and children’s activities. Refreshments are available throughout the event\, and we’re serving a two-course lunch at 12 noon. DESCRIPTION:Friday\, May 8th to Sunday May 10th\n\nWhy come to Holmfirth Festival of Folk?Holmfirth is a small pennine town which comes to life during the Festival of Folk. There has been a folk festival in Holmfirth for more than 40 years. 2026 will be the 48th! We pride ourselves on producing a community based festival involving schools\, local talent\, most businesses in the town and\, of course\, a small band of volunteers. Our income is tiny compared to most festivals on the circuit and comes mainly from sponsorship\, grants\, public collections and ticket sales.\nThe Festival isn’t just about concerts (DETAILS OF WHICH ARE BELOW)\, it’s also about Community involvement and fun. We will have a wonderful Schools concert \, street theatre\, lots of dancing and performances by local groups. The Parish and the Methodist Churches are important venues who\, kindly\, host events and activities.\n​Other parts of Holmfirth festival of Folk are our fringes. We have our Family Fringe of street theatre\, family friendly events and activities\,  and\, of course\, our Musical Fringe where town centre venues such as The Nook\, O’Briens Bottle Shop\, Taphouse\, The Elephant and Castle\, The PostCard\, The Old Bridge\, Ten-14 and Cooper’s Yard host artistes.  For a free Family Fringe Timetable\, click HERE \nFingers crossed that we have our Fringe artist line-up finalised !
