SUMMARY:Evening Jewellery making Classes with Rooks & Roses
DESCRIPTION:These Wednesday Evening Workshops are designed to be flexible to meet the needs of each individual whether you’re just starting out in jewellery making or if you’re looking to expand your existing skills and knowledge. \nWith a class of just four students\, in his fully equipped studio\, Karl will guide you through the process of how to cut\, file\, shape and solder copper and silver in order to create your own special piece (or pieces) of jewellery. \nThese intimate classes are designed to encourage participants to think about the way different materials work and how various methods such as heating\, hammering and texturing can assist in creating your final unique piece. \nWorking from either your own design ideas or a number of possible examples\, Karl will work closely with you with to create it\, within the parameters of both the timescales and materials available. DESCRIPTION:This class takes place at the Sculpture Lounge Studios- home to a growing number of professional artists. Classes are led by Jamie Frost\, a figurative art specialist with a particular passion for drawing:\n\nDrawing is a very personal thing so it’s important to me that the atmosphere of my classes is welcoming and accepting. Small groups of people help each other to understand what they are doing\, regardless of experience\, whilst I provide a structure\, tuition\, and advice which can move things forward.\n\n\nMy sessions take into account the complete beginner but we also have plenty of more experienced artists involved. \n\nIn order to attend you just have to bring yourself and some enthusiasm. I provide drawing media and good quality cartridge papers. The studio is equipped with easels\, drawing boards and all the equipment you should need\n\nThe course structure includes regular lessons in formal drawing. Line\, tone\, perspective\, mark-making\, blending\, foreshortening\, portraiture and many other subjects are discussed. SUMMARY:Wood Carving Introduction Class (Relief Carving) at Jamie Frost Studio
DESCRIPTION:Carving is a beautiful process. The textures\, sounds and aroma of the materials will awaken your senses\, accompanied by the rhythms of each student driving chisel with mallet. In this class you’ll work using finest quality hand tools to carve green timber. Everything is provided. You’ll be shown how to care for tools and where to acquire your own.\n\nNo previous experience is required. Your first class will take the form of a structured introduction to the tools and processes involved. You’ll then move on to your first project. This is a guided workshop with a maximum of eight participants\, where the tutor is on hand to provide tuition\, advice and assistance as you develop your own project.\n\nThe workshop is open from 4-6pm each Wednesday. The introductory class will teach you how to make a relief carving\, to be completed in a 6-8 weeks.

His focus is about “bringing everyone together\nto make something great happen”. And this year is promising to be the best one yet.\nFor 60 years the event has brought together a variety of artists across all mediums of art –\nfrom sculpture to paint\, to photography and beyond. It remains one of the UK’s largest and\nlongest running open art exhibitions welcoming artists and visitors from the local area\, as\nwell as across the country. \nAs well as supporting local artists\, a percentage of sales from Holmfirth Artweek are donated\nto charity each year. To date the event has raised over £1.1 million. This year this will be\nsplit between local charity The Kirkwood and long-standing partner Macmillan Cancer\nSupport. In 2025 this amount total £40\,000 or £20\,000 each. \nAcross the event there will be a wide variety of art from both professionals and amateurs\,\nproviding something to suit everyone’s taste and budget in the main exhibition. There are\nalso demonstrations on the stage in the Civic Hall\, showcasing a selection of artists at work\nso you can see behind the curtain on how pieces are made. The Civic Hall in the heart of\nHolmfirth also has a small café and a market on the middle floor\, making it a fun day out.\nIn addition to the main exhibition\, businesses and venues around the area also participate in\nthe Holmfirth Artweek Fringe by exhibiting and selling the work of even more artists. This\nhelps to bring Holmfirth Artweek into the community and to raise extra funds for the charity\npartners. Venues located across Holmfirth\, the Holme and Colne Valleys and beyond\nprovide a great way to see the local area. The venues range from bars and cafés to\nchurches and community spaces\, as well as open art studios which will offer visitors special\naccess into the artists’ workspaces\, this year there will be 60 venues to visit. \nThis year\, the event will run from Sunday 5 th July to Saturday 11 th July. The main exhibition\,\nat Holmfirth Civic Hall\, will be open from 10am – 9pm Monday – Friday and until 5pm on\nSunday and Saturday. \n

DESCRIPTION:Friday\, May 8th to Sunday May 10th\n\nWhy come to Holmfirth Festival of Folk?Holmfirth is a small pennine town which comes to life during the Festival of Folk. There has been a folk festival in Holmfirth for more than 40 years. 2026 will be the 48th! We pride ourselves on producing a community based festival involving schools\, local talent\, most businesses in the town and\, of course\, a small band of volunteers. Our income is tiny compared to most festivals on the circuit and comes mainly from sponsorship\, grants\, public collections and ticket sales.\nThe Festival isn’t just about concerts (DETAILS OF WHICH ARE BELOW)\, it’s also about Community involvement and fun. We will have a wonderful Schools concert \, street theatre\, lots of dancing and performances by local groups. The Parish and the Methodist Churches are important venues who\, kindly\, host events and activities.\n​Other parts of Holmfirth festival of Folk are our fringes. DESCRIPTION:Carving is a beautiful process. The textures\, sounds and aroma of the materials will awaken your senses\, accompanied by the rhythms of each student driving chisel with mallet. In this class you’ll work using finest quality hand tools to carve green timber. Everything is provided. You’ll be shown how to care for tools and where to acquire your own. \nNo previous experience is required. Your first class will take the form of a structured introduction to the tools and processes involved. You’ll then move on to your first project. This is a guided workshop with a maximum of eight participants\, where the tutor is on hand to provide tuition\, advice and assistance as you develop your own project. After your first relief is completed we’ll discuss a more advanced project for your net term of study. Small groups of people help each other to understand what they are doing\, regardless of experience\, whilst I provide a structure\, tuition\, and advice which can move things forward. \nMy sessions take into account the complete beginner but we also have plenty of more experienced artists involved. \nIn order to attend you just have to bring yourself and some enthusiasm.
